The Effect Of Betaine On Livestock

Betaine is a natural compound. It was named after its original extraction from sugar beets. It has been used as a feed additive for more than 50 years. Because of its important role in the animal's protein and fat metabolism, it has attracted much attention and has been widely used.

The mechanism of action of betaine

Methyl is an indispensable and important substance in the metabolism of various substances in animals. Animals can hardly synthesize methyls and must be supplied by feed. Betaine is the most effective methyl donor, and its three methyl groups serve as effective active methyl groups. One of these methylates homocysteine to form endogenous methionine and dimethyl arginine, the endogenous methionine releases the methyl group by forming S-adenosylmethionine, and dimethylglycine forms 5-methyl by releasing the methyl group. Tetrahydrofolate, which in turn is a methyl donor for the synthesis of methionine by homocysteine. Betaine is involved in the metabolism of proteins, fats and other substances through the betaine-homocysteine methylation reaction and plays an important role in the nervous system, immune system, urinary system and cardiovascular system.
